Dancing with STEAM: First Results and Study Visit in Palermo

The Dancing with STEAM project brings together science, arts, dance, and movement to make STEAM learning more inclusive, creative, and engaging for young people. Developed within the framework of a European Erasmus+ project, it is primarily addressed to educators and youth workers, offering innovative methodologies that combine artistic and scientific practices.

First Training Modules Now Online

A first key milestone of the project has been reached with the publication of the initial training modules online. These resources, developed during the Study Visit in Palermo, provide concrete tools to integrate STEAM approaches through dance, theatre, and movement. They aim to support professionals in implementing creative, accessible, and stimulating educational experiences for young people.

Study Visit in Palermo: Immersing into STEAM

The Study Visit organised in Palermo brought together youth workers from across Europe for an intensive programme combining scientific discovery, artistic practice, and intercultural exchange.

Day 1 – Discovering STEAM through experimentation

The first day began with welcome and networking activities, encouraging encounters and connections among participants. The groups then explored various STEAM concepts and discovered how dance and theatre can bring science, mathematics, and technology to life.

From creative physics to sensory chemistry and embodied mathematics, the morning was filled with hands-on, playful, and accessible experiments. An inspiring introduction that placed creativity and the body at the heart of learning processes.

Day 2 – Dance and theatre in action

The second day was entirely dedicated to bringing STEAM concepts to life through dance and theatre. Participants explored movement, rhythm, and creative expression, learning how to transform scientific and technological concepts into performative experiences.

Hands-on workshops encouraged collaboration, creativity, and self-expression, clearly demonstrating how art and STEAM can work together to create truly innovative learning experiences. This intense and energising day prepared participants for the next phase of the project in Marseille, which will focus entirely on dance and theatre.

Exploring STEAM at the university

During the Study Visit, participants also visited the Physics and Chemistry departments of the University of Palermo. They explored laboratories, met researchers, and attended live experiments, discovering how science comes alive through real-world applications.

The visit offered valuable insight into STEAM careers and into practical ways these disciplines can be applied in youth education projects. An inspiring experience highlighting the richness of dialogue between art, science, and technology.

Technological immersion at the Fab Lab in Palermo

The Study Visit continued with a hands-on experience at the Fab Lab in Palermo. Participants engaged directly with robotics, 3D printing, and digital fabrication.

This day demonstrated how technology can bring ideas to life, transforming abstract concepts into tangible and interactive creations. A powerful moment illustrating the strong connection between technological innovation, artistic creativity, and teamwork.

What’s next?

The Dancing with STEAM project continues with new phases of training, experimentation, and dissemination at the European level. The resources developed will keep expanding to support professionals in implementing educational approaches where science meets the body, movement, and artistic creation.

✨ When creativity meets science, new ways of learning emerge.
