IMPROVE BY MOVE is an innovative Erasmus+ project between three expert organizations dedicated to youth development:
- Sempre a Frente Foundation – coordinators (Poland)
- Cie Essevesse (France)
- NICOLA ARTS (United Kingdom)
Recognizing the challenges faced by young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the project aimed to develop a supportive program to enhance self-acceptance, confidence, and overall well-being through dance and movement workshops.
Project Goals
- Support Youth Development: Provide young individuals aged 13 and above with tools to strengthen self-awareness, self-expression, and emotional resilience.
- Equip Youth Workers: Offer innovative methods and resources to professionals working with youth, enhancing their ability to support and engage participants effectively.
Program Components
The IMPROVE BY MOVE program comprises two complementary workshop types:
- Non-Formal Education Workshops
Focus on integrating participants and developing skills in self-acceptance, communication, emotional intelligence, and time management. - Dance and Movement Workshops
Emphasize body movement and dance to deepen experiences and competencies gained from non-dance activities.
These workshops can be implemented separately or combined, allowing flexibility to meet the specific needs of different youth groups.
Implementation and Evaluation
To ensure the effectiveness of the program, the following activities were conducted:
- Training for Youth Workers: Held in France (November 2021) to familiarize facilitators with the program’s methodologies.
- Pilot Workshops: Conducted in Poland, France, and the UK (March – August 2022) to test and refine the program with actual youth participants.
- Evaluation Meetings: Organized in London to assess feedback and make necessary adjustments.
- Final Conferences: Hosted in Marseille, Lublin, and London to disseminate findings and promote the program’s adoption.
Inclusivity
The program is designed to be inclusive and accessible:
- No prior dance experience, musical ability, or physical fitness is required.
- While not specifically tailored for individuals with disabilities, the program’s flexible nature allows for adaptations to accommodate various needs.
